ISG Spring 2020 Meeting (#70) - Pune, India (proposed)

Greetings Implementation Community,

As I announced at the Beijing bSI Standards Summit, Bentley Systems has proposed to host the next ISG meeting (11-13 March 2020) at their development center in Pune, India!

I ask our ISG members to please take a moment to contemplate this and let me know if this will work. Léon and I see it as a great opportunity to have our first ISG meeting outside Europe or the US and reach an audience to include Asia-based (APEC) companies beyond India. We will most likely use this to test some new ideas about the format and results of these meetings, making them more proactive and responsive to the needs of the larger buildingSMART community. It’s a direction I’ve been wanting to take the group since taking over as chair in 2016 and now have a great partner in Léon van Berlo, bSI Technical Director, to work with in doing so.

We’d like to get everyone’s response as soon as possible so we can begin planning. Confirming the place and dates will help Bentley organizers and travels obtain flights and visas as required.

If you are unfamiliar with Pune, please take a few moments to follow these links:

I’m excited by the opportunity and hope the community is as well!!!

Best regards,
Jeffrey W. Ouellette

3 days are intended?

Just to give some more context regarding the location of the meeting.

We are proposing to host the meeting in Pune office of Bentley Systems. The office is located in a cyber city called Magarpatta City (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magarpatta)

I am attaching some pictures of the Cyber city and the digital academy (part of the Bentley office) where the meetings will be hosted

Hi all,

Here is a proposed agenda outline:

Day 1: Updates and Discussions (buildingSMART Members only):

  • bSI Technical Services (tooling) update
  • Certification (progress, issues, etc.)
  • Projects (progress, new initiatives, vendor participation, etc.):
    ** openCDE API,
    ** BCF
    ** IFC Road
    ** IFC Rail
    ** etc.

Day 2: IFC Development (Open to all)

  • IFC4 issues / implementation agreement workshop
  • IFC5 clean up; progress (schema change decisions)

Day 3: IFC Workshop (Optional- Open to all):

  • Write/edit documentation
  • Write Implementation Agreements
  • Create official public “test cases” for IFC support

We are trying to bolster the meetings to be more proactive and results oriented, rather than just reactive to the demands of others. This group should include members of the ISG, MSG, Room/project leaders, independent developers supporting IFC and other buildingSMART standards, researchers/academic, and possibly a few highly-advanced end users who can contribute like developers.

Hopefully this helps everyone make the decision to join. I would like to get messages/replies that your company is committing to the Pune proposal. If we do not get enough response in the next week, we will have to propose an alternate location.

Having not really been able to make the logistics work for any previous ISG meetings, I’m quite keen to attend this one. It should be a very interesting meeting.

The place is not a problem for me, if my company have a budget for the meeting itself…

Hi Jeffrey.
First I wish you and all the community a Happy New Year !
For the Pune Meeting, we think it’s a good idea and we plan to attend the meeting.
Best Regards.
Jacques.

I would love to see parts of the meetings streamed/recorded. Is this planned?

It sounds like we may need to look at an European alternative meeting location, as we can’t seem to get a quorum of existing ISG members to attend.

Hello @jwouellette,
Any news about the location ?
