Open Data Optimization: Real-Time Urban Spatial Layouts (MPT Math) Syncing to BIM Models

Hello buildingSMART Community,

I wanted to share an open-source workflow research project I recently completed for a Devpost hackathon called “BIM MPT Urban Optimize.” The project explores how we can leverage external optimization engines to dynamically handle spatial and urban planning constraints before committing them to local BIM models.

Core Framework & Implementation:
• The system utilizes Markowitz Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT) linear algebra and Simplex Projection mathematics to dynamically resolve parcel boundaries and self-correct layout anomalies.
• Rather than relying on static file exchanges, I implemented a background polling bridge that handles real-time live data syncing directly into local active document loops.

The full logic diagrams, functional code architecture, and a video walkthrough can be found here:

I would love to get this community’s perspective on translating this style of algorithmic spatial optimization into open-source OpenBIM or IFC data schemas to avoid proprietary workflow silos.

Best regards,
