ROI regarding detailed element properties and material layers in a BIM model (e.g., Revit)

In your experience, is the additional time and effort spent adding detailed element properties and material layers in a BIM model (e.g., Revit) generally worth it in terms of the accuracy and reliability of quantity takeoffs for cost estimation?

That depends on the stage of the project. In early design phase probably no, in execution phase where you need to order materials probably yes.
Also related is the tool you use. While in Revit it can take days, in Qonic it only take a few hours. This LinkedIn post explains why the detailing process is so quick in Qonic.
