The topic for February’s meeting is “Formal Property Sets vs. Simple Properties”
Topic Summary:
There is a long debate on adding properties directly to object. Some prefer to have a long list of properties that get grouped using additional tags instead of placing them in sets. Some say standardized Psets should get a special status from other property sets that are added by software tools and users. Some want more and more properties standardized in IFC, others want to remove all properties from IFC and put everything in the buildingSMART Data Dictionary. Properties and IFC have been a popular topic of discussion for a long time. The February IFC Development meeting is open for all arguments.
Rethink properties in IFC and present your case to the community! Community members are invited to offer presentations on the subject. You can submit your ideas in response to this topic by reaching out to technical@buildingsmart.org at least a couple of days in advance of the meeting.

Please note: owing to the buildingSMART Virtual Summit, there will be no meeting on Thursday 18th March. Instead, the planned topic of “the new IFC5 product inheritance tree” will be presented during the General Assembly of Implementers meeting (1st - 3rd March). Therefore, the next meeting after February will be on Thursday 15th April, and at the time of writing there are no further topics agreed. If you have any suggestions for future topics from April onwards, they would be most welcome.
