Has the Alignment Based Reference View been published, and if so, where?
The Alignment Based View (note that it is not a Reference View) is published within the core 4.3 documentation. For example, the list of concept templates includes a tag for each concept that is in scope of the AbV. These tags are also visible in the documentation of individual entities such as IfcAlignmentHorizontalSegment.
Lastly, the Entity List in Annex B is also useful to quickly determine if a specific entity is included in one of the 4.3 MVDs.
From the official list of MVDs, the AbV is awaiting final approval.
MVD Database - buildingSMART Technical
Just yesterday, I saw a change in the AbV documentation from github.
buildingSMART/IFC4.3.x-development: Repository to collect updates to the IFC4.3 Specification
Fair enough. But (potentially playing devilâs advocate) does it have to be 100% final before it can be used? Perhaps 99% complete is âgood enoughâ.
Relatedly, Iâm thinking of waterfall software development where a spec would be 100% documented and signed off before the development team starts, versus an agile approach focused on iterating and âfailing fastâ.
Yes, there is a risk of something changing that requires rework, but different parts of the community have different tolerances for that risk in exchange for the value of an earlier go to market plan.
I agree that everyone can start using AbV regardless of how it is documented or its state.
So important to keep pushing forward.
Sure, but I think itâs best to wait for standardization before releasing a version of a given model view. No one say that you shouldnâ t start the implementation before standardization.
